These shoes show the signs of their life. A life they’ve shared with me. They began as a comfortable pair but eventually grew to become my significant other. Our first big trip together was to Africa, Ghana first. These shoes took me along dirt roads to work and back, up bush and rocks to a waterfall. In South Africa we made our way up to Zimbabwe and around Victoria Falls, and there they jumped off a bridge on my first bungee jump. Years later we went to Japan and these shoes, showing their maturity now, walked me up Mt Fuji. They weren’t intimidated by other people’s climbing gear; they held their own and persisted to the crater and back down. That was the last hurrah but an incredible one. They haven’t really been the same since. They’re tired, I can tell. But they’re still here; they may very well be here forever. (Donor, Luke Holmes)
